Mission: Making A Difference

Our mission is to improve the health and well-being of individuals within the developing economies of the world by advancing healthcare equitability, access and advocacy. Theist Organization also strives to attain its religious, charitable, and social welfare goals by organizing and conducting programs of research, education, and healthcare services as well as selectively sponsoring projects in biomedical investments and entrepreneurship. We feel our motto 'a posse ad esse' or 'from possibility to actuality' best expresses this desire to make the intention of our visions into the reality of our actions.

History

Founded in 2000 as a non-denominational religious, research and education foundation by physicians and scientists in the United States, Theist Organization has expanded internationally to include healthcare initiatives in medical research, legislative advocacy, biomedical investments and entrepreneurship. Additionally, because we believe fostering a network of like-minded institutions can achieve more towards ultimately accomplishing our global mission, we have recently begun sponsoring projects to share best-practices research with other charities and foundations at home and abroad.

Advocacy

Theist Organization researchers, educators, physicians, advocates and volunteers work collaboratively to give all individuals within the world's developing economies better access to educational and health opportunities. Towards this end, we are concentrating our efforts on a number of important sectors.

Healthcare

Parents should not have to make the terrible choice of either feeding their children or buying them the medicines they need. Yet there are still over 46 million people living in the United States alone that do not have any health insurance (US Census Bureau, "Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage 2007"), and billions of others in the world's developing economies who cannot afford to receive basic medicines or health care services. This means that for many of these adults and children, they cannot get immunizations, diagnostic medical examinations, or therapies for easily preventable common illnesses. Theist Organization is working diligently through its researchers and physicians to ensure that all individuals have access to basic health care services.

Education

According to UNESCO, there were over one billion non-literate adults in the world (26% of the world's adult population in 2001). Furthermore, 98% of all non-literates live in developing countries, with women making up two-thirds of all non-literate people. In the least developed of these countries where literacy rates fall below 55%, the average per capita income is less than $600 per year. This means that many of these individuals will never have the chance to improve their own or their children's socioeconomic opportunities, trapped in a vicious cycle of illiteracy which entombs them into only the most dangerous or poorly paying manual-labor jobs. Theist Organization along with its educators and volunteers is fighting to break this vicious cycle and ensure that all children have the opportunity to learn and be educated to the fullest extent of their abilities.

Research

Some of Theist Organization's investments in biomedical research and biotechnology companies have started to yield success. Sponsored research into Toll-like receptor proteins have increased scientists' understanding of immunology and microbiology, studies in oncolytic viral therapies have improved anti-tumor response rates, while our investments in small interfering RNA have increased researchers' understanding of gene function and regulation.

Philosophy

Along with our charitable and social welfare missions in healthcare and education, Theist Organization also advocates a non-denominational religious philosophy of humanitarianism and nonmaterialism based on our belief in a benign universal Creator. We do not proselytize, but it is our members' belief in God's philanthropy which motivates us towards our own mission.
